"I'm from Sri Lanka and completed my A levels in Kandy. Filled with a keen desire to improve myself, I moved to Singapore to further my education and enrolled in a 3 year Hospitality and Leisure Management Programme with a prominent school before finally achieving my Bachelor's degree from Switzerland.
After my studies, my love for education propelled me to begin a career in the education industry in Singapore as a Marketing executive.
I have been in this industry for more than 3 years now and students I've assisted include locals, various foreign nationalities and last but certainly not least, my fellow country mates from Sri Lanka.
Guiding and supporting them with their education pursuit in Singapore is at times challenging and tedious with all the major documentation involved but at the end of the day is a hugely satisfying and fulfilling experience. I'm blessed to have found a rewarding career in Singapore.
Singapore is a wonderful place to learn about hospitality and tourism management given its world-class tourism infrastructure and its entrenched position as a global business city making it a top tourist destination in the world.
To begin with, the government of Singapore tries its best to ensure foreign students studying in Singapore are well protected and one of the reasons is because Singapore is trying very hard to establish itself as an international education hub.
Recently certain legislations such as Enhanced Registration and student's fees protection scheme among many others were put in place.
Enhanced Registration ensures the school conforms to the stipulated standard set by the Council for Private Education under the Singapore Ministry of Education.
Hence, fly by night schools or degree mills will have no place in Singapore and credit goes to the Singapore Government for making this possible as they embark on their journey to becoming an established international education hub.
Choosing hospitality and tourism education in Singapore is one of the best decisions you can make. There are very few countries in the world where all the best hotels, restaurants, integrated resorts, theme parks, luxurious retail outlets, attractions and recently casino are found in an area of 700 square km2. Tourism in Singapore is experiencing exponential growth with the opening of the two world-class Integrated Resorts this year. Opportunities are great for good internship or even a career if you have the required qualifications and more importantly the right aptitude for the hospitality industry.
Please note that the medium of instruction in Singapore's schools is English.
However, my fellow country mates can take comfort in the fact that so long as you can prove you have proficiency in the English Language, IELTS is not a necessary requirement to apply for student pass to Singapore.
As the official and business language, English is widely spoken in Singapore making it a conducive place to improve your English further.
In terms of housing, there are many hostels or shared apartments to choose from coupled with a world-class transportation system which links up almost every part of Singapore.
They have one of the best and affordable medical care in here and food is available anytime of the day being a food paradise.
Our school offers thorough orientation and bonding sessions for all international students in the beginning and throughout the course duration with several activities in and out of class. You'd be surprised to know that all schools in Singapore are required to offer professional counselling to students if the need arises.
Furthermore, I would be there to personally service the interests of our fellow country mates if they face problems of any kind during their course of stay.
I regularly meet up with my students and all their feedback serves to improve my service constantly.
My personal mission is to value add to my fellow country mates education journey so that they will eventually return home and contribute to various sectors and together we will see the economic development of Sri Lanka.
This alone fills me with a great sense of patriotism and achievement. God Bless Sri Lanka!
Welcome to Singapore!!!
