My grandfather’s birthday

By Nicola Nanayakkara (Grade 3), Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya

Maurice Nanayakkara is my grandfather. He lives in Panadura. He has three sons and seven
grand-daughters. My father is his second son. My father says, that my grandfather taught him how to lead a good life.

My grandfather will be 75 years old on the 11th of September. We are going to give him a surprise party.
We will be inviting some of his friends and relatives.

I am eagerly waiting for that day. I am sure Seeya is going to be very happy. I love my Seeya. May God bless him!

My idol

By D. L. Dinup (Grade 5), St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya

My idol is my uncle. His name is Harsha De Silva. I call him “Raja Mama”. He studied at St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10. He is the present coach of the Sri Lanka National Women’s Cricket Team.
He is the proud father of three beautiful children. He gives 100% when it comes to his family. He is a very loving husband.

Cricket is my uncle’s life. He is a very quiet and a qualified coach. He is very famous in the cricket field and in the country.

He is well respected by young and old. He brought glory and honour to his alma mater as a school-boy
cricketer and as well as the college coach. Two of the national cricket players namely Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera were coached by my uncle.

I want to follow my uncle’s footsteps and to be a good and famous sportsman, to make my uncle proud and happy. May God bless my uncle and his family!

By Ashen Attanayake (6 years), St. Joseph’s College

My house is in Kelaniya. It is very big and very nice. We have a large garden and a pond. I like to live in my house.

My ambition

By Gnanem Karuniya (Grade 7), Good Shepherd Convent

A man without ambition is useless. Everybody is born with some purpose. Everyone should know this purpose. Then he or she should fulfil it. I do not want wealth or power. I want to serve my country. That is my only ambition. Therefore, I want to become a doctor.

I am a student in the seventh standard. But, my ambition is to be a doctor. By becoming a doctor, I shall serve the poor and the sick. I shall go to the villages and give them free treatment. The poor cannot pay for their treatment.

If my ambition is fulfilled, I shall do my best as a doctor. I am working so hard so that I may get the best grades. It would help me in getting admission into medical college.

I am a member of our school Junior Red Cross Society. I take deep interest in its activities. I know many things about First Aid and nursing. This training will help me a lot. I want to be an ideal doctor. It is a noble profession. A noble profession is its own reward.
