Magic

By Ranaba Godakumbura (13 years), Yamato Junior High School, Japan

Magi is the Latin word for magic. Magic is an art that was entertaining people for many years from
history. The first modern magician was Jean Eugene Robert Houdini.

These days I’ve been practicing and performing something really fun and exciting. It’s MAGIC. I’ve wanted to start learning magic when I came to Japan since there are many magicians here.

I started learning magic from my friends and YouTube .They teach you many magic tricks, especially really hard and rare magic that real magicians do.

Of course you have to have a real magician’s deck (pack of cards) which is a very rare and limited edition. I got mine from a magic shop here in Japan. Now I have several decks and some magic equipment.

I can do levitation magic, card magic, coin magic, bar magic, street magic, and many more magic illusions.

I perform my tricks for my parents and friends and they say I’m really good. I also make my own cool tricks when I’m free.

I think magic is an amazing art and a valuable hobby that anyone could have.

Health

By Sewmini Gunasena (Grade 4), Oxford Int. School, Badulla

Health is better than wealth. it is one of God’s best gifts to us. But it can be easily lost. It seems natural to us to be well when we are young. We cannot think what illness is like. So we don’t think much about our health.

We are often careless about it. Without thinking we spoil our health by bad habits and doing silly things. When we have lost it we find its value. How can we keep our health? Only by knowing and obeying the laws of health.

An unforgettable trip

By Kanishka Dahampath (10 years), St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota

Last weekend my family and I went on a trip to visit waterfalls and reservoirs in Nuwara Eliya district. We started from Kandy.

First we visited Kotmale reservoir. It is very beautiful. It was full of water, nearly spill level. We crossed the dam and went to visit waterfalls through Talawakelle Road.

We saw very beautiful waterfalls Kadielle, Devon, St. Claire. There was a small hydro-power electricity power house situated near the Kadiella waterfall. Then we came back home through the Siripada road. On the way we went to visit Wimalasurendra reservoir.

It was the first hydro electrical reservoir in Sri Lanka. After we went to visit Castlereigh, Laksapana reservoir. I liked this trip because it was fun and a happy educational trip.

My tour to Kandy

By Zaid bin Hussain (Grade 2), St. Anthony’s College, Kandy

On October 8, 2010, I went to Dalada Maligawa. I saw people drumming and blowing the trumpet. I saw people worshipping.

Next my friends, my teacher and I went to the Museum. We saw the throne, old coins, old doors etc.
When we left the museum we went to see Raja the tusker. They had made a structure of him. They had even put pictures of how he died.

Next we went to the bus and ate what we brought to eat. Next we went around the Kandy lake and came back to school.
