In just a tad over a week Smokie flies in for their highly anticipated one-off concert on November 30 at Water's Edge.
Currently on an 18-day national tour of Australia, Smokie has sold out all but one show during their 24-day tour! But they needn't fear; there's ample time for the band to dispense with the remaining few tickets for their concert at Sydney's historic Enmore Theatre on Sunday, November 28- before flying to Sri Lanka.
One of the most active rock 'n roll bands around the traps, Smokie fits in well in excess of 200 performances per annum - a schedule most other outfits would love to emulate!
Smokie tours Down Under every two years and has enjoyed full houses not only in that country and neighbouring New Zealand, but also across Europe, North America and South Africa.
While it's quite a common occurrence for personnel of successful rock outfits to move on, Sri Lankans will be delighted to learn that Mike Craft (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Mick McConnell (lead guitar, vocals), Terry Uttley (a founding member on bass, vocals), Steve Pinnell (drums) and Martin Bullard (keyboards), have been together since 1996.
The more-than-two-hour performance will be packed with rock 'n roll gems: while their own high-profiled, quality ditties like Living Next Door To Alice.
Mexican Girl, Lay Down In The Arms Of Someone, Needles And Pins, I'll Meet You At Midnight, Don't Play Your Rock 'n Roll To Me, Little Flirt, and Oh Carol, to name but a few will get a thorough workout, Smokie is also renowned for their own versions of hits of other acts!
Perhaps, what's most heartening is the fact that their latest album, Take A Minute, is dominating the charts across Europe. Sri Lankans will hear a few tracks from that album during the show on November 30.
The concert, presented by Water's Edge, is sponsored by Dialog, Singer Sri Lanka and LOLC. The Sunday Times and Daily Mirror are the Print Media Partners while YES FM Channel 1 MTV are the Electronic Media Partners while Cinnamonn Lakeside is the official Hotel. |
