More than Rs. 3.5 billion has been deposited in banks by Internally Displaced People (IDP) in Wanni camps and those who were resettled in their villages recently, President Mahinda Rajapaksa claimed on Friday.
The President made the claim at a Temple Trees luncheon meeting with members of the Tamil Political Party Forum which included Minister Dougals Devananda, PLOTE leader D. Siddarthan, TULF leader V. Anandasangari and former Presidential candidate K. Sivajilingam to discuss issues relating to the IDPs.
The 16-member delegation urged President Rajapaksa to take steps to pay compensation to the displaced people as they had lost their belongings and most of them did not have jobs.
