‘Taste Timeless Style’, is the Paradise Road slogan and Shanth Fernando, owner of the highly successful chain has opened yet another store with his signature ‘timeless style’. With each of his stores being distinctive, the new store, named ‘Paradise Road Design Studio’, will make available chic modern furniture, ceramic ware and glassware made with traditional techniques, creating a product that is unique.“The Paradise Road Design Studio is an extension of Paradise Road. With seven other Paradise Road stores, cafe and hotels, I was running out of space and needed a new store for the type of merchandise sold here at the Design Studio,” says Shanth.
Occupying a spacious and open house designed by Sri Lanka’s legendary architect, Geoffrey Bawa, the design studio merchandise is a step away from what is typical of Paradise Road. “After I set up Tintagel Colombo, people were very interested in the Chinese furniture I had imported for the hotel.
So I decided to make it available although, the merchandise found in the new store also includes classic European modern designs such as Le Corbusier Chaise Lounge, Eilleen Gray Tables and Charles Eames.”
Shanth says he has personally selected each item found at the Paradise Road Design Studio and stresses that a product bought at the Design Studio will not be found in any other home as each item is unique.
Each of these pieces have been allocated a room within the Bawa designed house and are placed alongside other items that complement them to give customers an idea of how they will look in a home and what other items they can be matched with.
The house, designed for Druvi Saram, is located at 61, Ward Place, Colombo 7, and is now open to customers. Celebrating the opening of the Design Studio, Shanth has organised an open air cocktail for all those who visit the store during the week. The welcoming and open ambience of the Paradise Road Design Studio will close your senses to the bustling city and take you through a shopping experience with a difference. |
