A gala event decorated the Ceylon Continental Hotel last November 2010, as the Outstanding Achiever Awards Ceremony of Cambridge International Examinations was held in its premises in honour of the students who excelled at the prestigious Cambridge Learner Awards and the Cambridge Inspirational Teacher Awards. The University of Cambridge International Examinations sector rewarded the outstanding achievements of the students who sat the examinations in June 2010.
Wycherley International getting into a tradition of shining at the British Council Award Ceremonies proves to the world its dedication to education by providing opportunities to the students in Sri Lanka for an innovative and successful education to excel in the new challenging world. British Council collaborates with Cambridge University for these International Examinations, which has contributed greatly to its success.
The Cambridge Learner Awards reward excellent learner performances around the world and in Sri Lanka, reflects the voluminous talent in students. It acknowledges the love and dedicated attention given by parents and teachers. Wycherley takes pride in providing the finest and most attentive teacher panel for the ultimate benefit of the students, which is the main contributing factor towards the success of the students in their school career at Wycherley and afterwards. Wycherley is an institution whose ultimate goal is to provide a group of citizens who are worthy, not only to our motherland but also the world and to prove this point it should be mentioned that Cambridge qualifications are equivalent to a visa to employment overseas that provides broader scope for the students.
The Chief Guest was Dr. John Guy, who chairs the Qualifications Committee of Cambridge University International Examinations and the Guest of Honour, the Minister of External Affairs G.L. Peiris. Mr. Tony Reilly, Director of British Council, made the presentations of Awards for O/Levels 7 A grades and above and thereafter Dr. John Guy did the honours to the students who had 4 A Grades at A Level and 3 A grades at the A/Levels. The Chief Guest also gave away the High Achievement and Best Across Awards. Mr. G.L. Peiris, the Guest of Honour presented the Top in Sri Lanka and Top in the World Awards.
It was indeed a proud moment for Wycherley, with many winners carrying away Awards on their shoulders. The Top in Sri-Lanka Award in Economics and Computer Studies went to Keshini Sridharan. Vishnu Thiruchelvam walked away not only with the Top in Sri-Lanka Award in Mathematics Syllabus B but also
with the Best Across 8 Cambridge O/Levels securing the 3rd place. Rumana Razick Anver had the High Achievement Award in Geography. Securing 8 A Grades at the O/Levels 2010 were Vishnu Thiruchelvam and Rumana Razick Anver and 7 A Grades were Ahmed Ishan Najumudeen, Anuruddha Higgoda, Keyomi Gunaratne, Melanie Fernando and Sadra Jubair.
At the Cambridge A/S Level June 2010 Examination, Shanil Gunawardena and Poorni Yapa walked away with the Top in Sri-Lanka Awards for Biology and Computing respectively. Shanil Gunawardena obtained 1st Place in the Best Across 5 Cambridge A/S Levels, Sachinthe Dumilana the 2nd Place in Best Across 5 Cambridge A/S Levels and Poorni Yapa 3rd Place in Best Across 4 Cambridge A/S Levels Awards. It was indeed a proud moment for the students as well as the school.
The A/Level June 2010 Awards saw Ashara Fernando and Vaneeshwar Rajarmoorthy with 3 A Grades and Anjalee Kalutotage with 4 A Grades securing prestigious Awards. Mr. Kokila Galapathithige walked away with one of the Cambridge Inspirational Teacher Awards.
The entire Awards Ceremony was enlivened by the colourful performance of the Hanuma Wannama, a traditional Kandyan Dance performed by the students of Wycherley, which brought a taste of culture and tradition of Sri Lanka into the occasion. This item was filled with aesthetic beauty which showed the all round ability of Wycherley to enrich their students with Tradition and Education of high quality and loyal dedication.
The ceremony concluded on a cheery note, where the students who had worked with much dedication and enthusiasm walked away with their awards to start the greater part of their journey to success. There is no doubt that Wycherley will always be there to guide and assist them in their need, for once a student of Wycherley, he or she is always a student of Wycherley. |
