My favourite and
peaceful place is my home. My home has many
beautiful and spacious rooms. My home protects my family from rain, cold and dust. I love my home. I think my home is the world’s most beautiful home.

My pet is a puppy. The colour of its coat is brown. So I named it Brownie.
It is very fat and healthy. It is always active and alert. It listens carefully at strange noises. He wags his tail happy to welcome me home from school. He barks fiercely at nights. I feed him with rice, fish, meat and milk. Everyone in our home loves him dearly.
The real Santa’s life story
By Charles Perera (Grade 5),
Royal Int. School, Kurunegala
In Turkey, Patara City, a child called Nikolass was born in 270 A. D. Nikolass became a Father. He went on a pilgrimage to the Myra harbour. When they were in the middle of the sea, a big storm came.
Then Nikolass prayed and the water settled down and they came back to the harbour safely. Because he saved the people he became the patron saint of sailors. People and the Fathers decided to appoint Fr. Nikolass, Bishop of Myra City. He died December 6, 343 A. D. His remains were taken to Italy, Bare City and kept in a basilica. His name is Saint Nikolass. Later the name changed to ‘Sinterklass’. Later he became Santa Claus. That’s how Santa’s name was formed.
For small children
St. Nikolass gave gifts because he loved small poor children. But he gave gifts secretly. Small children were happy with those gifts as Santa Claus gave them. He became their saint. The real Santa is a short bearded person. Santa’s sleigh has eight reindeer.
End of 2010 and dawn of 2011
By Kalendra Abeysinghe (Grade 4)Trinity College, Kandy
One year has passed soon, 2010 has ended. I can’t forget the year 2010 because many good things have happened as well as bad things.
Good things are, I acted in a drama in the British Council and got a present from the Trinity Primary School Principal. I got lots of presents for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. I got a certificate from our school for the sports meet. I won the handwriting competition. We went on trips specially to Kataragama (twice). I got a gold medal for attendance from our school (St. Benedict’s College).
On the other side, the bad thing would be that I left school (St. Benedict’s College). I am so sad to leave school.
New Year 2011 started. One happy thing at the start of January is that I am going to a new school, ‘Trinity’. 2011 World Cup is also about to come in February. It will be held in Sri Lanka. I hope that other than the World Cup, some more things will be held and also we are hoping that Funday Times will do something new.
Wish you a prosperous and happy
New Year.
Best holiday

I went on a trip to Malaysia during the December holidays with my family. I got this
opportunity because I did well in my term exam.
First we packed all our things and got ready for the trip. We went to Colombo airport on December 23. We got into the flight at 11 p.m. We travelled on Sri Lankan Airlines. We had a comfortable journey.
We stayed in a hotel called Central Hotel. It was a
beautiful place and I enjoyed the food there. I went to see Twin Towers and Genting theme park. I had a wonderful time there and my mother enjoyed shopping.
On December 26, we went to Singapore. I am thankful to my parents for giving me such a wonderful experience in my life.
