For Sri Lanka’s top agencies it was hard work for three days from last Saturday – pitching for the mega Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) advertising and promotion account.
The presentations were made over three days with companies being called into a room, making their presentations and then moving out of another door. “Was that to avoid being seen by a competitor?” an agency boss said, laughing.
In recent weeks, there have been three major advertising contracts on offer; one other being Sri Lanka Tourism which is yet to decide after the shortlist of candidates. Earlier Phoenix Ogilvy won the ICC World Cup agency contract with its parent making a presentation in Mumbai to ICC organizers. Ogilvy is handling the World Cup event in the three countries - Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh - where the event is being staged.
SLT’s advertising budget is in the region of Rs 500 million and together with subsidiary, Mobitel’s ad spend of an equal amount, the duo has the biggest ad spend among Sri Lankan corporates.
Sri Lanka Tourism’s advertising expenditure is seen at around $500,000 each in five to six key overseas markets. |
