The commencement of a big match between these two dynamic international schools was the brainchild of the two principals Kingsley Jayasinghe of Wycherley and David Saunders of CIS. The first encounter was played in 1996 and has been a permanent fixture on the school calendar of events ever since.
From the year this contest began, Wycherley has been victorious on six occasions and CIS has won eight times, while an encounter ended in a draw. This is the sixteenth annual big match and the winners will carry home the Lalith Athulathmudali Challenge Shield which was donated by Mr. Athulathmudali himself.
Wycherley is lead by Anuruddha Higgoda and Virosh Dharmadasa captains the CIS. Both skippers are confident of becoming winners. The track records indicate that the two teams look squarely poised. Playing the game in the true spirit of this gentlemanly sport will be the guiding slogan not only of both teams but also of both schools, who will no doubt be looking at a victory for their respective teams. |
