While the world is engulfed with one of the worst natural disasters in world history with tsunami in Japan and following up blasts in nuclear plants threatening worst disasters over natural disaster, the world of cinema in both east and the west is taken over by yet another movie on world disaster, and this time it is aliens.
Released worldwide on second week of March this action packed sci-fi movie ‘Battle; Los Angeles’ is woven around a platoon of U.S. Marines during a global alien invasion and is now being screened at the Liberty cinema, Colombo.
Directed by Jonathan Liebesman the film is set in modern day Los Angeles, the film stars Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Michael Peña, Ne-Yo and Bridget Moynahan in the lead roles.
The story is kept simple: when a swarm of undetected ‘meteors’ hits the Earth’s atmosphere, the US military is swiftly deployed to Los Angeles – one of the first towns under threat – and briefed about what appears to be an alien invasion. The attack begins immediately and the forces spring into action.
A small team of marines, including Staff Sergeant Michael Nantz (Aaron Eckhart) who had planned to retire, is ordered behind enemy lines to rescue a group of trapped civilians before a planned bombing raid. But they get more than they bargained for as they fight alien ground forces and deadly aerial drones. Can they escape with their lives – and Los Angeles – intact?
At the end of the first week ‘Battle: Los Angeles’ nabbed the top spot at box office, bringing in $39 million in ticket sales. !Rango took second place in a strong second week finish with $23 million, followed by Red Riding Hood with $14.1 million.
