A private bus driver who was found guilty for causing the deaths of two persons in a road accident, while trying to escape after causing two other accidents, was sentenced to seven years and four months rigorous imprisonment by Colombo High Court Judge Preethi Padman Surasena.
The driver, Indika Chaminda Weerasinghe of Molagoda, Waragoda, pleaded guilty to driving recklessly and at high speed, a bus which was not technically sound nor in a roadworthy condition.
The accident took place on October 7, 2006, killing two persons, Samantha Thusitha Gunasekara and Rahima Fathima Saheena.
Prosecuting State Counsel Indika Nelumini told court that the driver had knocked down a pedestrian and a motorcycle rider, when his bus collided with a three-wheeler killing two others and injuring four more persons.
A group of STF personnel had given chase and arrested him. |
