Students who have studied for the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) BIT (Bachelor of Information Technology) Degree at ESOFT Computer Studies were able to obtain good results this year as well. The convocation of the 8th batch of students that obtained the BIT Degree from the Colombo University was held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) under the aegis of the Colombo University Vice-Chancellor and the UCSC Director Prof. Gihan Wickremanayake recently.

This is the fourth time that the students of ESOFT obtained the best results in the BIT Degree Programme of the Colombo University consecutively. The best student at this year's convocation was Mr. Dasun Nilanjana of ESOFT. He obtained the BIT Degree with a First Class and bagged the Gold Medal awarded in commemoration of UCSC founder, the late Prof. V.K.Samaranayake. The Colombo University awards this Gold Medal every year to the best student of the year. Further, Dasun Nilanjana secured the annual Gold Medal for the Best Project, and another bright ESOFT student Virangya Senevirathne was able to secure a First Class.

One hundred and forty students obtained the BIT Degree at this convocation and half of that number, 70 were students who had studied the BIT Degree Programme at ESOFT. Of these 140 students, 21 students obtained First Class and Second class Degrees and 13 students were from ESOFT. According to these statistics, this year too the students who had studied for the Colombo University BIT Degree at ESOFT obtained the best results for the fourth year running.

The University of Colombo School Of Computing (UCSC) is a pioneering institution in the ICT higher education field. The UCSC which celebrated its 25th anniversary recently, conducts Internal Degree Programmes, External Degree Programmes, Diploma and Postgraduate Programmes. The UCSC launched the Bachelor of Information Technology External Degree, now widely accepted nationally and internationally, in the year 2000.

ESOFT has now started enrolling students for the new BIT 2011/2012 intake and registrations are ongoing. Classes are scheduled to begin in May and students can expect a range of value added benefits in addition to the normal curriculum contents. ESOFT also provides specially prepared textbooks free of charge to all enrolled students. These books are issued at registration irrespective of whether the student pays in full or in instalments. BIT classes are conducted in all parts of the island including Colombo, Negombo, Kandy, Kurunegala, Bandarawela, Galle, Matara, Jaffna, Batticaloa, etc.
