Sri Lanka is an island in the Indian Ocean. From ancient times she had been a famous harbour.
It has been the doorway to ships sailing to countries in the west and east. There are two natural
harbours in Sri Lanka.
They are Trincomalee and Galle.
Lighthouses are built along the sea coast to provide light for the ships and show them the route. The first lighthouse was built in Galle in 1848. Dondra Lighthouse was built by the British in 1887.
The height of it is 47 metres. It is the
highest lighthouse in Sri Lanka. It has been constructed with stones. There are nine
storeys. You have to go up on a spiral
staircase. The light on the top rotates a full round every five seconds and flashes to a long distance. It works day and night.
Dondra Lighthouse was made under the British government. When Sri Lanka became a republic in 1972, she took it over.
Today, Dondra Lighthouse is controlled by the Ports Authority.
Holidays and school

"All work and no play make Jack a dull boy." Holidays are something important to a growing school child. Your brain can develop faster when it senses something fun and hard. That’s why some teachers add jokes in the middle of a lesson. Or else the teacher too feels something unnatural.
Holidays are something refreshing to children like us. When we have a holiday we can get up fresh and enjoy the day. We must study at the same time or do an activity like improving your handwriting.
In school times, we have an interval to have a snack and relax. To make a happy and healthy mind you need to relax and develop your brain.
And remember, all work and no play make Jack a dull boy.
The computer

As a student we should have the ability to choose good things and bad things. To make a successful life, we should get more and more knowledge. We can get knowledge through various media like radio, television, books, computer, and
internet.
The computer is a
creation of modern
technology. There are both good and bad things in the internet and some bad
websites can be taken as examples. In the modern competitive world, the
computer is very useful for our day to day work.
We can be happy by playing
computer games.
In the globalized world, anyone can’t recollect past memory. So we can store our special information in it. We can use internet as well as we can do so many things if we want. Most school
students have a computer to ease their educational work.
We can talk with others through the internet as well.
Some institutions and organisations exchange their information and data
individually through the internet. Today it has
developed to a great extent.
