Vijitha Bandara representing the Victoria Golf and Country Resort clinched the Pin Fernando Grand Prix golf championship in Kandy. Bandara reached a level par 72 to finish up with a total score of 291 as he brushed off the close rivalry of N Thangaraja who disappointingly finished as the second overall.
Bandara maintained his control from the opening day throughout to the fourth and final day while Thangaraja missed out the top position by four shots. Thangaraja shot 75 for a total score of 301. With a total of 302 N Ranga emerged as the third.
Two 16-year-old golfers Derek Karunaratne and Sachin de Silva stole the limelight of the tournament with notable performances. Karunaratne ended fifth with a total of 312 while de Silva on a total of 313 finished as sixth.
