Colombo audiences will have the rare opportunity to hear Russian soprano, Olga Sosnovskaya when she performs with accompanist Torgeir Solsvik on piano on Friday, July 29 at the Taj Samudra.
Over her expansive career Sosnovskaya has developed a wide repertoire including arias from “Wedding of Figaro”, “Traviata”, “Madame Butterfly” and also true to her own roots, a selection of Russian favourites including the “Tsar’s Bride” and “The Lady of Spades”. For those for whom somewhat lighter soprano may appeal her operetta collection includes “Duchess from Chicago” and “Mousetrap”.
Her music albums include ‘Arias, songs, romances” and “Masterpieces of Opera Classics” amongst others.
In Sri Lanka, Sosnovskaya will perform with accompanist Torgeir Solsvik who regularly performs as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician.
The Taj Samudra and the Russian Centre in Colombo partner to bring Sosnovskaya who has graced some of the major concert halls winning audiences with her mastery of skill and technique to the Colombo stage.
Native to Russia, Sosnovskaya spent her early years in Ukraine, and continued at the Republican School of Arts, Syktyvkar and the Petrozavodsk Academic State Conservatory. During her time in theatre she worked with world renowned conductors such as Valery Gergiev whilst her partners on stage have included singers such as Anatoly Solovyanenko.
The concert will be held at the Crystal Lower Floor, Taj Samudra on July 29 from 7.30 p.m. onwards. Tickets priced at Rs. 2500 and Rs. 2000 are available at the Taj Samudra (Tel. 2446622) & the Russian Centre in Colombo (Tel 2685429) from Monday, July 18.
