Oh, what a lovely family is mine,
Not hundred of members, only nine,
Snow white hair on the head of
my Grandpa and Ma,
They are fair and pretty and
leaders of the family.
Expenses looked after by my father, he’s a business man,
My mother loves students, she’s a teacher,
They help me and my brother with studies and good habits.
We are proud to have good
parents.
Both our uncles love us very much,
All our needs done by them,
Ice cream, fruits, toys also we get,
Beach trips, movies also we enjoy.
Aunty cooks nice, tasty food,
We all get together in one house,
Thanks to God,
Because my family was blessed by God.
My favourite book
By Moneli Samarakkodi
(10 years),
Gateway College,
Rajagiriya
My favourite book is “Mona’s Mission Impossible” by S. R. Sameem. My mother bought me this book on April 10, 2011 from Paradise Road Studio. The ironic fact about what made me read this book is that my name is Moneli and my friends and family call me ‘Mona’, while the main character of this book is Mona too!
This book is about a girl called Mona. Mona’s mother had first
married a New Zealander while she was studying in New Zealand. Mona had been born in New Zealand.
Later, they had immigrated to
Sri Lanka because Mona’s mum, Rosy, had missed home. Mona’s father, John, had loved Sri Lanka and they had been a happy family. Three years later, Mona’s father and three of his office friends had gone on a fishing trip but, they had never returned.
A few years passed and Mona had just moved with her mum, step-dad and baby brother, Dilshan, when strange and weird things started to happen. One day, Mona is visited by aliens who need her help. She
discovers that her dad didn’t die at sea but instead is a prisoner in the land of Seapania. Mona’s alien friend, Jo-aag, helps to rescue her dad.
Mona’s Mission Impossible takes you to new worlds in this spirited adventure. It is highly enjoyable and exciting to read. I would like to thank my loving mother for giving me the opportunity to read such an
interesting book. I also wish that the author, S. R. Sameem would write more interesting books so that I can read them all too!
My sportsmeet
By Taibah Khalid (Grade 2),
Ladies College
My school sportsmeet was held on June 10 at our school grounds. For the meet I took part in the flat race,
flag relay and the fancy dress race. After all the races, we had a parade.
Then our principal spoke and said that it is alright to win or lose, she was happy that we all took part.
I was happy for my friends who came 1st or 2nd. I enjoyed the
sportsmeet.
My mum
By Sanuka Wasala, (Grade 1),
Vidura College
My mum is the best. She’s cheerful and bright. She teaches me all sorts of things like what’s wrong and what’s right. She never locks me in the house like a parrot in a cage.
My mum is the greatest. Don’t you think yours is too? So, look after her properly like she does for you.
My trip to Weerawila
By Tiana Wijesuriya (Grade 2),
Holy Family Convent
My family and my
grandmother went to Weerawila during the Vesak holidays. We had fun playing cricket.
We stayed at the
Air Force camp. We went to Yala and we saw a
leopard, wild boar, deer and hyenas. Elephants came to the runway at night. I love Weerawila!
