Elections to the remaining local councils including the Colombo Municipality will be held before the November budget, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa told the Sunday Times yesterday.
Mr. Rajapaksa said some of the elections had to be delayed due to development activities in these areas, but now the government had decided to go ahead with the polls.
“We have made the arrangements to have the elections since the terms of the councils have lapsed,” Mr. Rajapaksa said.
The government held elections to 204 councils in March and to 65 yesterday. Elections to 24 councils including 19 municipal and urban councils, are due. |
