Moving Platform gives us ‘Dinner with Friends’

The AIDS Foundation of Sri Lanka will hold a Dinner Theatre in aid of UNAIDS and to support children living with HIVAIDS.

The highly sought after dramatic group “Moving Platform” who have done many international tours will be performing in Sri Lanka for the first time. They will present the play ‘Dinner with Friends’ on August 18 and 19.

The dinner theatre performance will be held at Park Street Mews on August 18 followed by another show at the Bishop’s College auditorium on August 19. Dinner with Friends”, a Pulitzer Award winning play by American playwright Donald Margulies is directed by Feroz Khan, known for his critically acclaimed “Gandhi My Father” and shows such as “Tumhari Amrita”, “Mahatma v/s Gandhi” and “Salesman Ramlal”. The play, ‘Dinner with Friends’ is the apparently simple story of one couple’s breakup and its effect on their closest friends, but it evolves into an examination of the nature of friendship itself. How much should a friend confide? What are the consequences of withholding some of the truth? Can we ever really trust another person? Are our friends seen clearly as the people they are or through the prism of our own expectations?

Anyone who has ever loved and/or been disappointed in a friend will be at home at this play. For those who have been married for some time, or divorced, Dinner with Friends will resonate even more deeply. The play's serious themes, though, do not stop it from being funny.
