Referring to an article and images used in the Sunday Times last week, Dr. Priyanka Perera, Managing Director of Kindai Kagaku Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., has sent the following response.
Our attention has been drawn to a newspaper article and images which appeared in the Sunday Times of August 21, 2011, caption “Beauty and the beast - Proliferation of smuggled cosmetics products and mushrooming unregulated beauty parlours show up the ugly side of this business.”
We wish to inform you that the said article contains “Dreamron” image, which is inaccurate and misleading, and thereby causes grave damage to our brand name and company image.
Firstly, we wish to inform you that “Dreamron Hair Straightners” are manufactured purely in our factory in Horana, Sri Lanka and it was duly registered in terms of the Cosmetic Devices and Drugs law which prevails in Sri Lanka.
“We have not been informed by the Cosmetic Devices and Drugs Authority or any other State authorities about smuggled/counterfeit items on the above stated brand.
We are of the view that the publication of the image of “Dreamron Hair Straightener” is totally irrelevant to the content of the article.
News Editor’s note:
The article was dealing with the proliferation of smuggled cosmetics products and mushrooming unregulated beauty parlours. The images were taken at the Cosmetic Devices and Drug Authority (CDDA) which were inquiring into cases of counterfeit cosmetics as well as other allegations.
The CDDA maintains that there is an ongoing inquiry following a complaint from a user of the particular product, even though Dr. Perera says that the particular inquiry was over and it was found that the product was used in the wrong manner by the user. |
