The twenty member choral ensemble, ‘Choro Calibre’ youth choir will present a musical evening at the Holy Family Convent Auditorium, Bambalapitiya on September 10, 2011 at 6.00 p.m.
Since 2008, the ‘Choro Calibre’ youth choir has performed at many successful and acclaimed performances during the past few years at prestigious venues and events, with the recent success of their maiden Christmas choral album Feliz Navidad under the Torana label which was followed by the music video of the cricket world cup song Ape Naamaya Sri Lanka.
Today as a well established choir, it desires to give back to the society. The upcoming concert is the fulfillment of this desire and the concert is aptly titled “Hope for a child” with the objective of raising funds to lend a helping hand to innocent and needy children with musical talents.
The concert will mark International Children’s Day 2011, with all proceeds being donated to SOS Children’s Village.
The concert will feature the best school choirs from St. Joseph’s College, St. Peter’s College, Bishop’s College, Good Shepherd Convent, St. Sebastian’s College , Old Antonian Chorale and the talented children of SOS Children’s Villages, Sri Lanka. Shamal De Silva, the group’s choir leader and music director is the architect of ‘Choro Calibre’.
Unique and unprecedented in many ways, the concert will feature a rare combination of variety in choral musical presentation.
The curtain raiser of this concert will be a spectacular performance by ‘Choro Calibre’ with highlights from the Grand Musical, ‘Lion King’ and followed by an enchanting musical performance of diverse styles by the six leading school choirs with their own brand of choral excellence.
