Singapore Airlines Cargo has added Jakarta to its freighter network and increased its weekly frequencies to Auckland, Shanghai, Sydney and Xiamen, the airline said.
The new once-weekly Boeing 747-400 freighter service to Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, commenced on 5 September 2011. This new freighter service will be increased to twice weekly from Northern Winter 2011. Indonesia is a major exporter of garments, footwear, food products, machinery and electronic devices between Jakarta, Singapore and the rest of the world.
Cellco offers online MBA
Sri Lanka Telecom's (SLT's) mobile unit, Mobitel, recently launched an online Masters of Business Administration (MBA) programme accredited by the UK's Edinburgh Napier University (ENU), whereby course content, such as lectures, etc., will be accessed via an interactive virtual classroom made possible by the mobile service provider's mobile learning (mLearning) platform.
The launch on September 12 was held at the local residence of the British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, John Rankin, who also attended along with ENU Business School Dean Professor George stonehouse and officals from Mobitel.
Additionally offering students the option of spending a semester at ENU in Scotland, this programme has been alluded to as being just the first of what could potentially be many such courses offered, which will be accredited by international educational institutions, according to comments made by SLT and Mobitel Chairman Nimal Welgama which have been quoted in media reports.
Audit firm launches Fraud Survey
A Sri Lankan audit firm is launching what it says is the country’s first Fraud Survey.
KPMG Ford, Rhodes, Thornton & Co in Sri Lanka said in a statement that the Web-based survey is expected to gather feedback from corporate leaders on the sentiments and perceptions relating to fraud and malpractices affecting corporate institutions in Sri Lanka.
At a launch of the event next Tuesday, Gaganpreet S Puri, Executive Director of the KPMG Forensic Advisory Practice of KPMG in India will lead a panel discussion on “Mitigating Fraud – Are We Prepared?”.
CCC-led trade mission to Seoul
Sri Lanka-Korea Economic Co-operation Committee (SLKECC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce is organizing a Trade and Investment Promotion mission South Korea on October 16-21.
The main objective of the mission is to strengthen trade ties, source suitable business partners for trade, investments, joint ventures, technology transfer and services. It is hoped that this mission would assist in expanding existing business contacts. The mission will be led by Neomal Perera, Deputy Minister of External Affairs. Export Development Board of Sri Lanka, the chamber said.
