Wednesday June 29 was a very sad day for all of us at Sujatha Vidyalaya. One of my classmates, was knocked down along with her mother and baby sister, by a speeding
motorist, right in front of our school. My friend lost her mom in this
accident.
Nowadays, we hear of a lot of
incidents of this nature. It is very sad. The main reasons for many accidents, is speeding and driving after
consuming liquor. I believe that many accidents can be avoided if motorists are more careful.
This is an appeal to all uncles and aunties driving vehicles – please do not speed, especially near schools, before and after school hours.
There are many children on the roads
during these times. Speed kills – so please, drive carefully.
The environment
By Warana Sellapperuma

Nugegoda
The environment means the
vegetation, oceans, seas, rivers and all our surroundings. The environment consists of everything and all living creatures depend on the environment. There is a close relationship between man and the environment. The
environment is very useful to us and is considered as nature’s gift. The environment is a close friend to us.
People destroy the environment in different ways. They are cutting tress, destroying forests and hunting.
Our duty and responsibility is to
protect the environment for the next
generation. If this situation continues, people will have to face many
problems. However, it is a sad fact that people are not aware of this.
In conclusion, I would like to say that the environment is very valuable to us and our duty is to protect the environment.
The most beautiful place in Sri Lanka
By Uzma Khan
(12 years),

Sri Lanka is famous for its three ‘S’s – Sun, Sea and Sand. They all shower beauty onto our pearl island and attract tourists from various regions. There is one unique place where you can enjoy all three in abundance. That is Trincomalee.
Trincomalee is one
of the most visited places in
Sri Lanka, for its beautiful
shimmering sea. You can see the waves racing as though in a
competition, to kiss the soft
seashore, which gives the
onlookers a spellbinding sight. Although the climate here is hot and humid, the breeze which blows over the area makes you feel invited.
The most striking thing
that I have experienced in Trincomalee is the first rays of sunshine announcing the break
of day.
Yet another thriller is the flocks of deer on either side of the road. Their innocent looks tell us the wonders of nature.
The sacred Koneshwaram kovil located on a very spectacular rock and built
by the Cholas, adds more pride
to Trincomalee. I first visited Trincomalee five years ago and from that day on I have made it a point to visit Trincomalee
whenever my cousins come over for their summer holidays.
Now that the war is no more, anyone can visit Trincomalee at any time and experience its
enticing beauty.
My holiday
By Kaushal De Silva (Year 2),
Colombo Int. School
For my school holidays we went to Nuwara Eliya. We went with some friends in a van.
It was raining on the way. After having lunch, we played cricket. In the evening it was foggy.
On the second day, we climbed a mountain. It was an adventurous day for all of us. In the evening we were tired.
On the third day morning, we played cricket. In the
afternoon, we went to the lake for a walk and went to see a tea factory.
I enjoyed the trip a lot with my friends. I saw a lot of green vegetables, women plucking tea leaves and lovely waterfalls on the way home.

We celebrate Independence Day on February 4. We got
independence in 1948. Our first prime minister was D. S. Senanayake.
It is a national
holiday. There is a parade on that day. We hoist the Sri Lanka flag. Many students take part in the drill display. We sing the National Anthem. We remember our past heroes. It is a great day for us.

IDM affiliated Galle campus held their annual Kids and Teens workshop on August 15 and 16. There were 130 students. We gave the name Hardy Kids 2011 to it.
Our teacher was Mr. Chathura. On the first day we repaired a system unit of a computer and learnt about the system unit.
We started our work at 9 a.m., had a break at 10.30 a.m., and finished at 12 noon. The teacher gave us time to ask questions. On the second day we did software. We wrote our comments on the workshop and suggestions.
In the end, I gave a big speech to all. My brother was also there. Our teacher and we all stood together for a photograph and finally Hardy Kids workshop came to an end.
We went home expecting to come in 2012 also.
My beautiful pen
By Anjalee Imasha (Grade 3),
Sri Rathnodaya English
Dhamma School,
Kurunegala
My father bought me a pen. It writes
beautifully. I took it to my school. I showed it to my friends. They became very happy. But the naughty boy Udaya broke it into pieces.
I cried in pain.
Then my class teacher came to the class and asked why I am crying. Then my friend Chamudi told what had happened. Then the teacher punished him and asked him to buy me a new one.
