While Sri Lanka is ready to welcome the record 7,50000 tourists for the year 2011, most of the hotels are geared with different facilities to accommodate the arrivals.
With the current increase of the tourist arrivals, the management of the Randholee Resort in Kandy has set their mind on developing more quality product to attract the high end tourists during the coming winter season.
To offer more quality and value added services, a major programme to upgrade Randholee is currently under way and will be completed in three phases.
‘This will be completed in three phases with a mind set of having a quality product which offers true value to our clients’ explained Pandula Weerakoon, the Manager Sales and Marketing, who is keen on product development to fill the needs of upmarket.
The Resort currently has 25 elegantly designed bedrooms. Out of 25, 18 have a panoramic view of the surrounding area. Each room boasts of double Queen Beds with Kandyan style paintings on the bed heads carrying the ‘Palanquin’ theme.
The room includes all the regular amenities which include Cable TV, telephone, mini bar and coffee maker. The private balcony with its wrought iron furniture, panoramic view and cool breeze is the perfect sit-out.
The three phases of this renovation project targets three different areas and theme to be up graded and valve addition in service and comforts.
The first phase is due to be completed by mid October this year will see an extended bar with greater seating capacity. The bar and the lounge area will be on 3 different tiers.
‘It will offer greater comfort levels for guests and contrasting ambiance at each level. Designed in a way that the bar will blend in with the existing architectural features which shall blend with the theme - Randholee, the efforts have been to make maximum use of the limited space available in the existing bar area’ Pandula explained.
In phase two, almost 80% of the work has been completed. The newly constructed wing consisting of five different levels will provide the much required recreational and spa facilities together with roof top suites which have the magical birds eye view for what Randholee is known for.
These suites are designed to be the best in Kandy and with features such as private coffee lounge’s /bar with personalize services. The new building will also have an exclusive bar and juice bar with a mini shopping arcade.
With these new additions, Randholee Resort will hit the top with most elegant hotel status in Kandy as the most luxury and quality services and facility provider.
Prominent among the recreational facilities will be the squash court and the indoor badminton court which will also serve as a multi purpose area capable of being converted to cater for other events. The gymnasium will be fully equipped and will complement the spa activities which will have facilities such as Sauna, Jacuzzi, steam baths and etc., to be operated by an International company of repute. The new wing will also provide for a 24 cover specialty restaurant. Phase 2 development is to be completed by mid November.
Phase 3 development yet to get off ground will provide a fully equipped state of the art HACCP certified kitchen, additional storage facilities etc. It will also provide an open deck for sun bathing and relaxation, linking the pool area to all rooms enabling easy direct access to the pool from rooms.
Currently due to heavy bookings and guests arrivals, the management is faced with a dilemma in bringing about equilibrium on development and expansion with uninterrupted operations.
‘In all probability phase 3 development will be completed by mid 2012. Gearing for the 2011/ 2012 season, overall upgrading of the existing rooms, public areas, services and facilities are on the cards to ensure Randholee falls in conformity with a four star classification and to be on the top of Kandy Resorts list’ Pandula explained.
After completing the full refurbishment project, Randholee will be the most sought after hotel in Kandy for the high end market, which yield more to support the Lankan economy.
The owning company, Freudenberg Shipping Agencies is looking beyond Randholee and Kandy with a commitment to ‘Sri Lanka Tourism’ in regard to 2.5 million arrivals in next four years.
The new hotel project in Nuwar Eliya will help towards achieving the 2.5 million target set by the Government.
With the history and archeological back ground, Nuwara Eliya project will be constructed to a unique Colonial English Cottage type hide out offering top quality standards. Construction is due to be completed in Jan 2012.
