Rotary awards 46 teachers at Deaf School, Ratmalana for Vocational Service Excellence

The Rotary Club of Colombo Fort as part of the Club's Annual award presented for Vocational Service Excellence this year recognized the entire staff of the Deaf School, Ratmalana, comprising 46 members, for their silent service and dedication at an award ceremony on 24th October 2011.
Every year in October, which is the month dedicated to vocational service by Rotary International, the Rotary Club of Colombo Fort has recognized a member from any vocation for assisting or helping the community by going that extra mile and playing a pivotal role in serving their communities.

This year the Rotary Club of Colombo Fort decided to felicitate 46 teachers and staff members who have been the live wire of the Deaf School, Ratmalana where they all work as one for the betterment of the students. It was a unanimous decision to recognize all the teachers instead of selecting one or two due to the effort and the dedication and patience required that goes in with teaching children with hearing disabilities.

During the event the Vice Principle stated that this is the first time in her 26 years at the Deaf School that such a felicitation took place in recognizing their efforts in teaching. Also another master in his vote of thanks mentioned that he had been involved in the school for the last 32 years and they were glad that an external organization has come forward to recognize the service rendered to the community and the school by the teachers at the Deaf School Ratmalana. This was a special event for Rotary Club of Colombo Fort as it was the first time in its 23-year history that the Vocational Excellence Award was of this magnitude and also timely as the Deaf School, Ratmalana willcelebrate its 100 years in service in 2012.
