Swiss International Airlines is now connecting with Colombo since the end of October through its subsidiary leisure partner Edelweiss Air.
The airline will be operating direct flights into and out of Colombo and Zurich while some flights will operate via Male, Swiss International Airlines Manager in Sri Lanka Surekha Fernando told the Business Times.
She noted that the company bought Edelweiss Air in 2008 and it is now operating as a subsidiary of the Swiss carrier and will be carrying out a codeshare flight into Colombo.
The flights operating twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays would be booked based on tour operators’ requests, she said.
Commenting on the resumption of flights into Colombo, Ms. Fernando said the airline believed there was a demand as a result of which they started operations.
However, the airline noted that they would take time to recommence flights of Swiss International Airlines as currently their network is full since they have already planned to connect with other destinations. Ms. Fernando observed that the airline would consider recommencing flights to Colombo as a regular carrier by around 2016. Currently with the winter season demand on from tour operators in Switzerland, flights are scheduled until end of March next year. |
