Sri Lanka has stepped up the renovation process of the Sugathadasa Stadium and its Indoor Complex, targeting April 2012 as the deadline for completion of all work. Renovations are being done to the Sugathadasa swimming pool which has not been functioning for the past two years due to a water leak.
According to official reports from the Ministry of Sports, the swimming pool and the football field of the Sugathadasa Stadium are being renovated and are due to be completed for the Asian Youth Athletic Meet which is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka.
“Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage inspected the work progress on Friday and he instructed officials that all work must be completed by April 2012,” the statement said.
Tenders have been called for completely refurbishing the running track at the Sugathadasa Stadium, which id also due for completion by April 2012. The existing fitness centre is to be upgraded according to international requirements, while a V.I.P gallery is to be constructed at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. |
