I was born as a tree trunk
In a beautiful estate
I was decorated with leaves and flowers
And surrounded by friends
One day,
I was separated from my
family
And taken to the factory
I was cut into several pieces
And coloured in different
colours
I am blue and red in colour
With a bit of green
A rubber was attached to the end of me
And I was put for sale
Now I am a pencil
Belonging to a beautiful girl
But I know that she doesn’t like me
Since I am half the size I used to be

I am proud to be the Chess Captain in Defence Services
College –
Grade 2 section.
I won all the chess matches which were held on October 23, at the Rathnaweli B.V., Borella.
On that day I won all the five chess matches and I won the Board Prize for under 8 years. But my team didn’t have a chance to be selected for the final. Anyway, it doesn’t matter. I will do my best and make my team the best team next time when we play.
I am very proud to be a chess player and the Defence College under 8 Team ‘A’ Captain.
Importance of sports
By Zakkey Irshad (Grade 5),
Hejaaz Int. School, Mt. Lavinia
Sports are very important to the human body. Sports keep us physically and
mentally fit. We can also get rid of many illnesses through sports. Doing sports is fun too. Playing football, cricket and doing athletics is very enjoyable. Doing sports like cricket, football, rugby, hockey and other team games shows us how to work together.
Many people especially children, like to play sports. We can do sports in our leisure time, rather than watching the television or listening to the radio. Doing sports keeps our body free from illness. We should do sports regularly, to get real benefits. The sports activity we choose must be likeable
to us.
