It’s not often we get to see miniature paintings. This opportunity will be afforded to Kandy art lovers as Thilak Palliyaguruge holds his 13th solo exhibition of Miniature Abstract Paintings III from Friday, January 20 at the Alliance française de Kandy, 642, Peradeniya Rd, Kandy.
The Chief Guest at the opening on Friday will be Prof. Veranja Karunaratne, Professor of Chemistry, Vice President of the Alliance française de Kandy.
The exhibition sponsored by the Alliance française de Kandy will continue till January 30 from 9 am to 6 pm.
Veteran artist Thilak Palliyaguruge needs no introduction. Well known for his works of art in Sri Lanka as well as abroad, he has had solo exhibitions at the Headquarters of the Association in Main State Society Washington, U.S.A in 1984 and was selected to present his work at the International Union for the Conservation of Nature poster competition in Athens back in 1958.
He began painting at his alma mater Mahinda College, Galle in the early 1950’s, bagging the first prize in art competitions and was awarded the “Kalabooshana” from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs as well as the Kandurata Suriya Sammana State award for Art and Craft from the Ministry of Central Province Development. |
