“Building a nation of miracle”, will be this year’s theme of Independence Day celebrations to be held in Anuradhapura.
Some 2,000 guests have been invited for the Independence Day celebrations in Anuradhapura next Saturday, which will coincide with the Deyata Kirula exhibition.
Already, most of the hotels have been booked to accommodate the guests, while some of the diplomats who wanted to stay overnight have been forced to find alternate accommodation outside Anuradhapura, due to the non availability of rooms.
A military parade with military hardware on display and with representation from all the units, will be held as part of the main ceremony which will be held on Sri Sambuddathwa Jayanthi Mawatha in Anuradhapura town. Some 1,400 Army personnel, 250 each of the Navy, Air Force and Police will be participating in the parade.
Over 2,500 artistes from Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Vavuniya and Mannar will also take part.
The religious ceremony at the Jaya Shri Maha Bodhi will be held with Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratna in attendance, Hindu religious ceremony at Kathiresan temple Anuradhapura with Minister Douglas Devananda in attendance, Catholic services at St Joseph’s attended by Minister Milroy Fernando and Muslim religious observances at Mohideen Jumma Mosque attended by Ministers A.H.M. Fowzie and Rishard Bathiurdeen.
Meanwhile, the Deyata Kirula exhibition, showpiece of the Government’s development activities, will be opened by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Saturday (Feb. 4) at 5 pm. at Oyamaduwa, Thanthirimale.
