Elegant Elements: One more by Raux Brothers

By Nedra Wickremesinghe

Adding yet another stylish art décor building to Colombo's current makeover is the new luxury lifestyle store 'Elements' by Raux Brothers located at Duplication Road in the vicinity of other fashionable shops and trendy eateries.

Established in 1959 as master craftsmen, furniture makers and antique dealers, Raux Brothers, now led by Graham and Kalani Raux, has evolved not only as makers of quality handcrafted contemporary furniture, but also as a major sourcing company for rare and unusual pieces of furniture and decorative home-ware from the Asian region.

"Elements" is distinctly different from our Heritage and Flagship stores as we try to give our clients a one-stop different kind of shopping experience where they can pick up anything from a piece of furniture, to a decorative household item, kitchen ware, linen or even a gift," remarked Graham. The scalloped edged consoles, unusual chandeliers made from thin iron rods, enormous bell-shaped bamboo hanging lamps, glass lanterns with leather and stainless steel accents, almost-white bleached teak consoles, sculptures of horses made from timber strips, and over-sized hand-cut crystal jars filled with water and floating candles were some of the unusual pieces that stood out.

"Elements" is housed in an old building that Graham in just under three months has artistically renovated to take on a contemporary look with clean lines and an ambience that is airy and luxurious. The disposition of space, décor and the objects of art you find in this specialty store is an elegant combination of elements that is uniquely Asian.
