By Anjalee Handaragama (Grade 6),

On February 9, 2012, we had our Inter-house Sportsmeet. The function began at 12 noon. The chief guest
Mr. Harsha Fernando was lead to the pavilion by our Western Band. We were taken to our houses and we waited patiently for our events.
First we had our class event. I did my best. After the completion of the class event it was announced that Swarnapali House had won the event. Our faces shone with happiness.
Then we got ready for the Drill Display. We each got two flags, a pair of gloves and headbands. We were given noodles and a drink for refreshment. Then we had our drill display.
Oh! It was awesome! The costumes and flags made the drill display more beautiful than ever. The audience was astounded by our wonderful performance. A big round of applause was given by our parents.
Then we had our junior and senior squads. The winning house was announced and some cried for happiness. At 5.30 p.m., we came to the conclusion of the sportsmeet.
I had a wonderful time and we were grateful to our sectional head and all our teachers who strived hard to make this event a success.

My favorite sport
By Shafraz Cader (Grade 5),
Hejaaz Int. School
My favourite sport is cricket. Cricket is very interesting and enjoyable. It is a popular sport in
Sri Lanka. It is an outdoor sport. There are three different versions; Test, One Day International and
Twenty-Twenty cricket.
To play cricket we need a bat, ball, three wickets and eleven players. Before a match starts there is a toss. The person who judges is called an umpire. There are many ways to get out in a cricket match. They are, catch, bowled, run out, and L.B.W. In the Asian region the strongest teams are Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Sri Lanka won the World Cup in 1996.
My favourite cricket team is the Sri Lankan team. My favourite opening batsman is Sanath Jayasuriya. My favourite opening bowlers are Nuwan Kulasekera and Muralidaran while my favourite fielder is Mahela Jayawardena. Kumar Sangakkara is my favourite wicket keeper. My favourite coach is Watmore and umpire is Andrew Symonds. My favourite skipper is
of course Arjuna Ranatunga.
My favourite shot is the ‘Pull Shot’.
I love cricket very much because it unites the nations that play cricket and there are good qualities in this game such as co-operation, respecting other teams, sharing ideas, and obeying your leader and coach. These qualities help us to become good sportsmen.
I am proud that cricket has made Sri Lanka famous.
My favourite sport is cricket and it will always be so.
