American University Roadshow

Saturday 31 March 2012 Colombo Hilton 11am – 5pm Open to O/Level and A/Level Students and Parents

The American University Road Show on 31st March from 11 am onwards at the Hilton Colombo is a unique and valuable experience for prospective students, their parents, and anyone interested in American university education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The American University Road Show is your opportunity to meet American admission representatives representing more than 12 U.S. universities and colleges, including the University of New Haven, New York Institute of Technology, University of Bridgeport, Northwood University, Missouri University of Science & Technology, Webster University and more.

The American University Road Show also includes an informative session by American Embassy Staff on the student visa process, as well as seminars by education professionals on important aspects of planning your American education, including the application process, planning your career, and  financial aid with the world’s No.1 study destination.

The cost of an American education is affordable, but the cost of an undergraduate degree can vary significantly between $12,000 and $30,000 per year. Scholarships ranging from US$ 8,000 - US$ 15,000 are available for international students based on merit, academic transcripts, sporting achievement, personal accomplishments in life and financial need etc. In addition students can work part time up to 20 hours per week on campus during the semester while studying and 40 work per week during summer holidays. Therefore, American education is an excellent investment in your future and such assistance makes it affordable.

American universities constantly rank very high in world rankings and offer international students the most exciting, rewarding and comprehensive array of study options in the world. International students who choose to study in the US have almost unlimited choices. Furthermore, international students who successfully complete their degrees in the USA are highly sought-after by employers worldwide.
America is the world’s top destination for international students!

This year nearly 700,000 international students will choose the US as their destination for their education and their futures. That’s approximately double than the entire annual O/Level student population in Sri Lanka and will even include tens of thousands of British, Australian, and Canadian students. America is not only the No. 1 destination for international students; it is the preferred premier destination for international students from all around the world.

Students who have completed their O/Levels or A/Ls have the choice of direct entry to America’s nearly 4,000 universities and colleges and over 600 degree programmes including areas as diverse as Business, Engineering, IT, Biomedical Sciences, Psychology, Law, Liberal Arts and many more. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings states 15 of the world’s top 20 universities are in the US. With such a wide selection of excellent learning opportunities, there is truly something for everyone, no matter what your abilities or ambitions are.

In America, it is not necessary to complete your degree program in the same university you started, as you have the option of changing your university and completing your undergraduate degree program in any US university or globally. This flexibility gives you the opportunity to improve your qualifications as you study, and transfer your credits to a top ranked university.

American education isn’t based on just an exam.  A process of continual assessment means that a student’s final grade or result is based on a combination of factors, not merely a single exam. Furthermore, American-style education promotes critical thinking, leadership, problem solving, independent thought, and effective communication.  Academic theory in the classroom is combined with practical experience through projects and activities designed to give students valuable real-life exposure in the context of a career-oriented education. The goal is to develop the individual and make him or her passionate about learning.

American graduates can gain paid employment of one to two year in the US in their career field, through the program known as Optional Practical Training (OPT). Such experience can play an important role in helping returning graduates to contribute more to the development of Sri Lanka much earlier in their careers as well as increasing their own earning power and chances of true career success.
The minimum pre requisite to enter a US degree program is the successful completion of O/Ls (school leaving certificate) and the SAT score. Students with A/Level’s can gain exceptions for certain courses relevant to the degree. For more information regarding the entry requirements to top US Universities,

For more information call 0777 882 885  or visit the American University Road Show on Saturday 31st March at Hilton Colombo starts at 11:00 am to 5.00 pm.
