‘Sepalika’, is a teleplay woven around two young teachers who teache aesthetic subjects in a village school who come across numerous dramatic events. This play will be telecast every weekday at 9.30 pm on Swarnavahini channel.
Directed by Janaka Chaminda Attanayaka, this mega teleplay with 200 episodes narrates around two prominent feudal families, an illicit liquor dealer, a group of school teachers and a few others characters.
Lalithya is a music teacher who comes to a village school and he secretly falls in love with Sepalika, a dancing teacher who has been already engaged to a son from a feudal family.
Sepalika (Chathurika Peiris) is a traditional dancing teacher while Lalithya (Suraj Mapa) joins to the same school as a Music Teacher. With parents’ blessing Sepalika was already engaged to Pahan (Gayan Wickramathilake) who belongs to another feudal class family in the same village.
Lalithya who finds boarding in the village becomes friendly with Pahan. He is unaware that his secret love Sepalika is proposed to Pahan and the two families were getting ready for the marriage. However Sepalika too secretly falls in love with Lalithya.
The main story revolves around these three individuals and their past, their families and the unexpected interference of Mahathun (Mahendra Weerarathna), who had become rich by illicit brewing. Mahathun too who was interested in Sepalika confronts Lalithya one day. This lead to a scuffle between the two and Pahan’s father Disasekara who hears that two outsiders had fought for his intended daughter-in-law decides to stop the proposed marriage.
Disasekara who threatens Sepalika’s father over the issue demands money borrowed by Sepalika’s father who mortgage the family’s ancestral lands. Mahathun comes to the help of Sepalika’s father by giving him money to get the lands released. But his motive was ulterior.
Pahan is disheartened over the whole series of events. What will happen to Sepalika and Pahan’ affair? What will be the future of Lalithya?
Others in the cast include Suminda Sirisena, Ananda Wickramage, Lionel Wickrema, Madanee Malwatte, Nirisha Thalagtala, Geetha Kanthi Tissa Bandaranayake, Shanika Bandara and Manohari Wimalatunga.
The professional of this teledrama cameraman, Janaka Chaminda Attanayaka directed camera for more than 17 teledramas and won a number of awards. He won OCIC Best Camera Director award for Chakrayuda in 2007.
