Theraputhra NS has edge over Vijayaba in ‘Battle of Walawa’

Therapuththa National School Ambalanthota will go all out to equal the series in their big match this year. The fourth in the series known as ‘The Royal Battle of Walawa’ played between Therapuththa National School Ambalanthota and Vijayaba National School Hungama will take place today and tomorrow (April 1 and 2) at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Suriyawewa. Vijayaba NS lead the series having won the inaugural match in 2009.

Therapuththa National School have the advantage of playing in the under 19 division three tournament this year they qualified for the second round defeating Batemulla National School and All Saints College Galle while the match against Debarawewa National School ended in a draw. They lost to Devapathiraja College Rathgama. In the second round they defeated St. Peter’s College Negombo but were unfortunate to lose their third round match against Weluwana College Colombo .

The strong Therapuththa team is led by third year coloursman M. Mithun Manamperi with third year coloursman U P Dinesh Madushan as his deputy. Dinesh scored 250 runs including 150 against Batemulla NS. Allrounder and third year coloursman J A Suresh Kodithuwakku has scored 369 runs including two 123 against Batemulla NS and an unbeaten 161 against All Saints College Galle. He has taken 30 wickets in the six under 19 games played. Pamod M Liyanagamage is an all round player who has scored more than 300 runs and taken 17 wickets. P A Leelananda Kumarasiri is coach cum Master in Charge and is the stregth behind the teams performance.

Third year coloursman Harsha Prtadeep Rukshan leads the Vijayaba National School XI this year with Hashan Tharinda as his deputy. W A Sadun Chamara and Hasitha Madushan have scored centuries in the under 17 schools cricket tournament. The team is coached by P Illangerathna while Jayantha Punchihewa is the Master in Charge.
