We celebrate the New Year on
April 13 this year. My mother makes sweets for the New Year. They are konda kevum, koki, aluwa, asmi.
She prepares milkrice on this day. We will visit our relatives and give presents to them.
People organize New Year
celebrations. Children like to watch bicycle races. There are many games such as tug-of war, keeping the eye on the elephant, pillow fighting, sack races and climbing the grease pole. We like the New Year season very much.
The environment
People, animals, birds, plants, rivers, lagoons, waterfalls all belong to the environment. We all have a duty to protect the environment. We get medicines, food and many more things from the environment.
If we use bombs, guns and other weapons, the poisonous smoke mixes with the air and the environment gets polluted. If we as people pollute and harm the environment, the environment will react to us. This is the reason for all the occurrences of natural disasters.
June 5 is known as World Environment Day. This day is specially dedicated for us to be aware of our duties and responsibilities towards the environment. We must not protect the environment only on this day but everyday. Let us protect our surrounding and prevent natural disasters.

If I was a Teacher
Doctors cure people, engineers build, lawyers fight cases for others using their knowledge, but where did it all begin? In a classroom somewhere, thanks to a teacher.
Like pollen carried by the wind a teacher helps many generations to pass on the knowledge.
In a letter addressed to his son’s teacher, President Lincoln said, “Teach him the wonder of books, but teach him if you can, the quiet time to ponder the eternal mystery of birds in the sky, bees in the sun and flowers on a green hillside.” If I was a teacher I would follow President Lincoln’s advice.
If ever I was to punish a child, I’ll do it in a constructive manner. I would tell that child to write ten pages of a storybook with pictures and bring it over the next day. I love field trips, my teaching will not only be limited to a classroom.I will teach with love and kindness just the way my teachers are to me.

There are many beautiful places like waterfalls, botanical gardens, natural harbours in Sri Lanka. There are many historical places in my country. They are the Dalada Maligawa, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya etc. I love my country very much.
