In these days of high fuel prices, police are probing how a leak had occurred from the diesel fuel storage tanks at Peradeniya.
The tanks are close to the Peradeniya station and people carrying various containers were seen collecting the fuel that was overflowing onto the railway tracks that run parallel to the tanks.
The leakage that had started around 1.45 p.m. yesterday had not been contained even at about 5. p.m. the Sunday Times learns.
It is alleged that those responsible for pumping the diesel from the bowsers to the tanks had not paid heed to the amount the storage tanks could hold, thereby leading to an overflow. |
