North Western Blacks lose last game of the day

Second leg of the Carlton Super Rugby Sevens was worked off at the revamped Police Park yesterday in front of a packed house. First leg’s champions North Western Blacks look set to win the second leg as well when they had a field day winning three out of four games and looked a clear leader within the 10 teams.

Each of the 10 teams packed with some top international players from England, Samoa, Fiji and New Zealand (Frank Halai, DJ Forbes and Tomasi Kama) along with some outstanding local players such as Dilip Selvam, Radhika Hettiarachchi, Sajith Saranga, Anurudha Wilvara provided the crowd with some mouth watering rugby.

Defending first leg champions North Western Blacks look set to be on top with all three wins in their group game. They had two outstanding sevens stars in their ranks. New Zealand players and current Kandy leg winners were in cracking form got the better of the last years champions Central Kings. Frank Halai (Last years leading scorer in the IRB World Series Sevens) and Shane Christy were in fine form running circles around the Central Kings. Frank Halai ran in two superb tries. Earlier in the day North Western Blacks were unstoppable against North Central Typhoons in a one-sided affair to open the day’s proceedings. North Western Blacks won by 31-7. They beat Sabaragamuwa Stallions by 29-12 before losing to Eastern Eagles by 24-12.
