‘Salmal Landha’ unravels black spells in Sri Lanka

The latest teleplay on Rupavahini ‘Salmal Landha’ which unravels the dangerous yet exciting outcome of black spells in Sri Lanka will be telecast every Sunday at 8.30 pm.

Directed by Vijitha Manjula Sinhapruthavi and produced by Mawo Lakshitha Karunathilake, the teleplay stars Jagath Chamila, Kanchana Mendis, Jayalal Rohana, Janak Premalal, Tony Ranasinghe, Suminda Sirisena, Maureen Charuni, Grace Tennakone, Oshadhi Hewamaddumage, Surangi Ruwanmalee, Jagath Manuwarna, Ratna Sumanapala, Rashmi Snaha, Harry Wimalasena, Kusum Perera, Richard Manamudali, Ajith Lokuge and Maali Jayaweera.

The thirty six episode teleplay unravels on Ukkurala who lives in a remote village and famous for his ability to conduct black spells. He is in possession of invaluable ola leaves with literature on how to prepare powerful ointments and black spells. Among them are a medicine that extends one’slifespan up to three hundred years. The two others who were aware about this medicine were his wife Dingiri and son Sagara who serves as an ayurvedic physician. On several occasions Sagara suggest to test this incredible medicine but Ukkurala who fears its outcome refuses.

Sagara, a pleasant and sociable young man serves in an ayurvedic hospital and Uma, a nurse who assists in his duties is interested in him. But he does not respond to Uma’s love. Piyadasa an unmarried elderly attendant in the hospital is being ridiculed by everyone due his foolish conduct . Yet Uma feels sorry for him and treats him with kindness. Piyadasa who misunderstands this falls secretly in love with her and this later becomes a nuisance to the young nurse.

Finally unable to continue the secret, Uma expresses her love for Sagara but he responded negatively leading to Uma taking a transfer from the hospital. Disappointed Uma is further harassed when elderly Piyadasa expresses his love for her. Angered by this unexpected turn of events she scolds him and heartbroken Piyadasa decided to commit suicide but Ukkurala intervenes and consoles him. Piyadasa who comes to know about the powerful anti-aging medicine insist Ukkurala to test it on him and ‘Salmal Landa’ continues with many dramatic events.

The teleplay is being edited by Dushyantha Polgampola, camera by Amal Liyanage, the screenplay of the teleplay is by U. B. Ratnayake. Kokila Wijesundara will be handling the art direction while Premalal Gunatillaka handles the makeup and Nandasena Rajapaksa lighting.
