“Moments are captured and kept in our hearts and minds. Friends and loved ones come and go but the most beautiful moments stay awake, each one unique like the waves splashing on the shore.
If you do not feel, see and hear them at that moment they are lost and gone unnoticed.” These are the words of the artist herself, Preethi Hapuwatte as she introduces her tenth solo art exhibition, ‘Moments’.
She joined Barefoot in 1972 and has been exhibiting since 1994. She gratefully remembers the founder of Barefoot, Barbara Sansoni-“she taught me about colours”. Preethi works as a toy designer and says that her work ties in with her paintings.
“These paintings were done during a period of twelve months- I started having nothing in mind but ended up filling canvas after canvas until I was satisfied. I love light and bright colours and the painting just evolves and takes shape from strokes.
After doing the drawing I can see a resemblance to a memory. These are my life experiences with people and nature in different places.”
The exhibition is on at Barefoot Gallery, no.704, Galle Road, Colombo 03 until June 24.
