Travel Expo 97 was held at the Oberoi Hotel, Bombay and the Taj Palace, New Delhi recently.
Sri Lanka was among the participants from 35 countries which included India, Britain, Switzerland, Nepal, Australia and Mauritius.
The highlight of the opening day in New Delhi was when Divya Chauhan Miss India 1997 became the Ambassador of Tourism for Sri Lanka, visiting the Sri Lanka stall and spending nearly two hours at the stall. She was interviewed by Nandani the Anchor of the Asian Business News Channel and spoke about the vegetation, cleanliness and the friendliness of the Sri Lankans.
Divya was in Sri Lanka from January 22nd - 26th 1997 for a photo shoot for the Femina magazine.

Among the many events planned as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of St. Peters College the Academic Exhibition scheduled for April 6, is a milestone.
The Project co-ordinator for this event is Rev. Fr. Camillus Fernando, who is ably supported by the staff and students. The aim of the organizers is to give the students a chance to transfer classroom knowledge into practice.
It also incorporates areas such as Science and Technology, Literature and Arts, Commerce and Business and History and Geography. Students in grades 3 to 14 assisted by the teaching staff are busy working to make the exhibition a success. A planetarium, an Aquarium, a stall for horticulture enthusiasts are also included in the exhibition.
His Grace the Archbishop of Colombo, will be the chief guest on Wednesday 9th April while on the 10th the chief guest will be Aviation, Media and Tourism Minister Dharmasiri Senanayake
Dr. Nalin Mendis of Negombo, who recently returned from the UK has been admitted as an Associate of the prestigious Royal College of General Practitioners of the United Kingdom.
Dr Mendis who is a student of the Open University of Sri Lanka has also recently passed the finals in Social Sciences (Level II) of the Open University of Sri Lanka.
He is a senior general practitioner in the private sector and is the Vice President of the Society of General Medical Practitioners of Sri Lanka. He is also Justice of the Peace, all island.
L. H. R.Wijet-unge, a senior member of the Photographic Society of Sri Lanka has been invited by the Organising Committee of the UNICEF the United Nations Childrens Fund to judge the 1997 Exhibition of photographs in Tokyo, Japan.
More than three thousand photographs have been received from photographers all over the world.
Mr.Wijetunge is on the regular panel of lecturers on the Societys Quarterly Training Course which is expected to commence at the Societys Headquarters at the Lionel Wendt Memorial Art Centre, 18, Guildford Crescent, Colombo 7.
The next course is expected to commence at the end of April 1997.
In town on his 14th visit to the island is German hotelier and businessman, Wolfgang Meiser. Mr. Meiser first came to Sri Lanka in 1977 and has since remained an ardent enthusiast of the country.
Hotel Zur Berg in Munsenberg, near Frankfurt, has acquired a reputation for Sri Lankan cuisine and products. Mr.Meiser serves a very popular Sri Lankan Sunday Brunch turned out by chefs from Negombo. The hotel which is in the shadow of the famous 600 year old Zur Berg Castle, has a Colombo Room with state of the art conference facilities.
Mr. Meiser is convinced that Sri Lanka offers a lot to European investors and suggests vigorous promotion of the Islands positive potential. A former national football player, Wolfgang Meiser is married with two teenage daughters, both accomplished equestrians.
.The Kennel Association of Sri Lanka will be having their 51st Championship Dog Show on April 19 at the Mahaweli Reach Hotel Kandy. It is the first time a dog show is to be held in Kandy and the organizers have taken a lot of trouble to make the show a success.
The show will be judged by B.K.M. Yeoh of Malaysia, an all breeds judge with plenty of experience. Mr. Yeoh breeds Dobermann Pinschers and Dachshaunds - long and smooth haired, his speciality being Dobermanns. He also owns German Shepherds and Boxers.
Thirteen breeds as well as a good number of dogs will be on show. There will also be food and trade stalls plus a raffle drawn during the day with two good prizes for the winners.
Roshini Pillai - a renowned dance graduate from Chennai - Kalashethra held a Sivarathri dance programme along with her students at Inkaran Madabam, Kotahena, under the patronage of Consul General for Mauritius, Mr. E. Ishwaran. Roshini took to Bharathanatyam at 10, and showed remarkable interest in the art form and exerts much talent at her performances. She presently teaches Bharathanatyam at Kalashiti Institute in Colombo.
The contestants for the Miss Working Girl 97 are now busy preparing for the Mini Pageants which will be worked off this month. The first of the mini pageants, the Miss Photogenic sponsored by Nine Hearts (Pvt) Ltd., for the past many years was hosted for the second year by Galle Face Hotel on Saturday March 29.
Miss Talent contest sponsored by the Edna Group will be held at Hotel Sindbad Kalutara, famous for its culinary delights and personalised service. They have hosted this Pageant for several years. The Hotel will be arranging a very exciting and special programme for the contestants as well as for the public today Sunday April 6.
The Miss Personality hosted by Airport Garden Hotel is sponsored by Asoka Glass and Mirror Co (Pvt) Ltd., and will be held on April 26. The Hotel has lined up several events.
All winners of the Mini Pageants will receive cash awards of Rs. 10,000/- each from the respective sponsor in addition to gold jewellery from Swarna Mahal Jewellers (Pvt) Ltd.
The Miss Working Girl Contest is organised by the Lions Club of Thimbirigasyaya District 306C and is sponsored by Swarna Mahal Jewellers (Pvt) Ltd., for the 4th year.
The official florists will be Sterling Flowers.
Proceeds will be in aid of the de Soysa hospital for women to purchase much needed industrial type washing equipment.
A car-wash organised by the Law College Christian Brotherhood in aid of the little sisters of the poor charity will take place today at Green Path 8 am onwards.
