The Institute of Music, Speech and Speaking Skills has organised a ''Competitive Festival'' for music, speech and dancing to be held in May/June this year, to stimulate artistic enterprise in the country.
Ms. Joy Fernando, representative and Ms. Kamini Perera, Director of the IMSSS feel that introducing exams for music, speech and speaking skills alone is not adequate.
A''Competitive Festival'' of this nature would be an ideal stepping stone to those aspiring to be good communicators, music makers and dancers, the organisers feel.
Today, several ''Competitive Festivals'' are conducted around the world, the grandest being in Hong Kong. The Competitive Festival which evolved in Britain boasts of 400 festivals affiliated to the British Federation of Festivals which acts as an advisory body and runs training schemes for adjudicators.
These trained adjudicators are sent at festival time to various countries to adjudicate in their respective specialised fields.
As Sri Lanka is affiliated to the British Federation of Federation of Festivals, the (IMSSS) would invite these trained personnel to adjudicate the festival here in Sri Lanka.
More details could be obtained from the Office of the Institute of Music, Speech and Speaking Skills, 14/2, Deanstone House, Deanstone Place, Colombo 3. Entries will close February 28, 1998.
