Now your veges in the net!By Mihiri WikramanayakeFor many people, marketing can be a drag. The thought of listing out, driving, parking and wading through the slushy pola or Sunday market can bring about a thousand excuses to put it off for another day. But, what must be done must be done. Lest the household grinds to a standstill! But, hope is not all lost. Moving with the times and very much in keeping with the new millennium is Oswin Peiris and his Elawalu Kaday. Taking and undertaking the delivery of your weekly marketing list, Oswin can be contacted on his e-mail and will personally select and put together your vegetable list for you. He will then have it delivered to your doorstep within 24 hours. Now could you ask for more? "I will even get your meats, seafood, eggs, or even a can of paint if you so wish delivered for you," Oswin said. "It will be a pleasure for me to do so." Starting off as a planter almost 35 years ago, Oswin has loads of agricultural background to his credit. After planting for 25 years, he worked as a floriculturist for a reputed company. A couple of years later, and with some experience in import and export of agricultural products, Oswin was looking for another avenue to vent his brimming energy. Retirement was not for staying home and playing with the grandkids but putting into good use his knowledge and skill. "I had to put my fighting spirit into good use. I was simply accepting situations and waiting for the right thing to come along," he said. So, together with his untiring wife Dorothy, Oswin decided on his little Elawalu Kaday. Nestled between others along Stanley Tillekeratne Mawatha in Mirihana, Nugegoda this little grocery and vegetable store offers more than what the eye can see. You ask for it and Oswin will see that you get it. And purely by word of mouth, this venture has taken off with many a weary mother and parent stopping at his little outlet, on their way home after another day at work, to buy their vegetables or pick up their orders. But it is his e-mail concept that is unique. Never before has this been done and Oswin insists that parents need to spend more time with their children than running around getting their household larders stocked up. "I value parents spending quality time with their children. Even a couple of hours spent at a market would be better spent reading to a child," he said. This is where he comes in. He will prepare and deliver for just a nominal amount, your entire list with the freshest of vegetables, choicest cuts and groceries. Dorothy is also willing to do her part. And according to Oswin, who swears by his wife's wonderful cooking, she will share recipes and secrets for tasty dishes and is even willing to prepare a dish or two for those in need! A skilled landscaper and decorator, she has also won many accolades for her achievements while playing the role of a planter's wife. "I had a beautiful rose garden which was admired by many," she says beaming, while busily tidying up the store. "Now I enjoy the constant interaction with customers and friends and look forward to another day's work." So, here's to all hassled people seeking to be rid of marketing woes oswin@systec.lk will be there for you. |
