Into the CometFirst Lankan production of Arthur C. Clarke's sci-fi A team of young Sri Lankans is set to bring renowned science fiction writer Sir Arthur C. Clarke's story 'Into the Comet' to the mini screen. The production has been undertaken by Maheel R. Perera with Digital Cinema Private Limited. This is the first time that a project of this nature and magnitude is being attempted in Sri Lanka by an entirely local crew. This production involves a high percentage of 3D computer-generated effects, Digital Non Linear Editing (computer-based editing) and post production image manipulation using the latest technology. More than 60 per cent of the material would be composite images of live action and computer- generated graphics, the producers said. The key computer graphics animator being a 14-year-old, adds another chip to the production. He may well be the youngest 3D animator in the world. This tele-feature is scripted, directed, photographed and edited by Maheel R.Perera, who is also the set designer, special effects designer and supervisor. Thilanka Sajiv Perera handles 3D Computer imagery. Chanaka Senanayake will produce the feature on behalf of the Digital Cinema Private Limited. Chalanga Salgado is the production manager while Asoka Hewage will handle the construction of the sets and backgrounds. Prasad Samarasekare and Hemantha Arunasiri will assist in photography and editing. The Muhurath of the feature was held at the British Council Auditorium, Colombo on November 29 in the presence of Sir Arthur C. Clarke. |
