There was 5.28 million kg of Ceylon Tea on offer at this week’s Colombo Tea Auction with 2.32 million kg being Low Grown Main Grades and 1.71 million kg were High and Mid Grown Main Grades.
In the Leafy and Semi Leafy catalogues select best and best BOP1s were dearer; others were firm. Ops lost out in value. OPAs were generally firm on last. Pekoe’s except for the bolder varieties, all others were irregularly lower. Pekoe 1’s met with less demand. In the Semi Leafy catalogues FBOP/FBOPF 1s were irregularly lower. In the Premium Flowery catalogues select best long leaf tippy teas were firm; others held last levels. Small leaf tippy met with improved demand.
There was good general demand in the Ex-Estate catalogues. Best Western BOPs were irregular with a few lines maintaining last levels.
High priced CTC PF1s were about firm. Some liquoring sorts held last levels, but most teas declined by upto Rs.50. Some better BP1s achieved higher level of price; others too were dearer but to a lesser extent. (SD)
