The Central Bank today send the following statement in response to our story comment headlined “Sri Lanka nears end of debt restructuring” which attributed a comment on the matter to a “Central Bank official.”
“We wish to make it clear that no officer of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) involved or responsible in the debt restructuring programme has made such a comment to The Sunday Times. Therefore, there is no authenticity to the comment referred in your article. If your journalist was able to obtain a comment from any other staff of CBSL who is neither involved nor responsible in debt restructuring process it should be mentioned in the article. We are of the view that obtaining comments from irrelevant persons and publishing such comments implying as institutional view is highly unethical,” the statement said.
