Low quantities were seen at the Colombo Tea Auction this week with 4.68 million kg of tea on offer with 1.73 million kg of Low Grown Main Grades and 1.65 million kg of High and Mid Grown Main Grades.
In the Leafy and Semi Leafy catalogues select best BOP1s maintained, while improved below below best BOP1s gained, however corresponding OP1s were marginally easier. Teas at the lower end were fully firm to dearer. Well made OP/OPAs in general were fully firm to dearer, however, small OP's declined.
Teas at the lower end were fully firm. Select best Pekoe/Pekoe1's firm, whilst improved/Cleaner below best varieties gained. Teas at the lower end maintained. In the Premium Flowery catalogues too, teas gained substantially. Shippers to CIS countries, Syria, Libya, Turkey and Russia were active.
Ex-Estate catalogues were irregular following quality. Except for a few select best Western BOPs, a few Coloury below best and select best BOPFs maintained; other Westerns tended lower upto Rs.50. Nuwara Eliya BOP/BOPFs sold well and were generally firm to Rs.30 dearer. Udapussellawa BOP/BOPFs were irregularly lower upto Rs.30, whilst Uva BOPs were barely steady. BOPFs were firm.
