The past month has reminded Sri Lanka of nature’s power, as Cyclone Ditwah swept across our land leaving destruction, uncertainty, and grief in its wake. Yet, just as communities have come together to rebuild homes and lives, we are reminded that resilience and compassion are the anchors that hold us steady in turbulent times. As we reflect on this year, marked by both joy and hardship, let us choose to end it stronger than we began - grounded in hope, unity, and purpose.
Year of Trials and Triumphs
This year has tested us with moments of trauma and challenge, but also gifted us with glimpses of joy and hope. These contrasting experiences remind us that life is never linear - it is a journey of valleys and peaks. What matters most is how we respond: with courage, compassion, and a determination to rise above adversity.
Be a Light
As human beings, we are called to be a light in dark times - a beacon for those in distress, an instrument of peace in our communities. For business leaders and professionals, this calling translates into practical responsibility: Let us work hard and smart, not only for profit but to bless others, show generosity and concern through tangible actions, avoid exploiting the vulnerable; instead, strengthen plans to serve responsibly in the year ahead.
Season of Hope
Amidst the storms of life, we have entered a season of hope – Advent - a time of waiting, reflection, and renewal. The Advent story reminds us of God’s words to Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, and the magi: “Fear not.” Fear paralyses and destroys creativity, while hope revives, inspires, and warms the spirit. As individuals and business communities, we must pause to listen: perhaps God is whispering the same message to us today – ‘Fear not’.
Foundation for Breakthroughs
As the year closes and a new one dawns, gratitude should fill our hearts for all that has been sustained and achieved. Looking ahead, one priority for organisations must be unity. Unity fosters connection, and connection sparks creativity, innovation, and breakthroughs. Leaders who nurture unity within their teams will see transformation in 2026 and beyond.
Just as Sri Lanka is rising from the cyclone’s devastation, so can we rise from the storms of life. In the final days of this year and into the new one, let us work quietly yet purposefully, pioneering the changes that must come. Hope is never confined by circumstances - it is a light that shines even in the darkest night. May hope arise, may unity flourish, and may light shine brightly in this season and into the year ahead.
