Marginal drop in Colombo tea auction volumes

A marginal drop has been observed this week in the volume of tea offered at the Colombo Tea Auction, market brokers stated.

Total teas on offer this week were 5.9 million kg with 2.71 million kg of Low Grown Main Grades and 2.16 million kg of High and Mid Grown Main Grades.

 

There had been improved demand for seasonal Western High Grown BOP/BOPF’s. Western BOP/BOPFs gained Rs.50 and more with below best gaining up to Rs.40. Nuwara Eliya BOPs gained sharply and their BOPFs were firm to slightly dearer. Uva BOP/BOPFs gained upto Rs.40 and others were about firm. Medium BOPFs gained Rs.20 and more.

The Low Grown and leafy teas met with mixed demand and in general a firm trend in prices was also observed. (SD)
