The Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL) is the pioneer and a leading institution established in 1964 and incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1972. Its prime responsibility is to enhance human capital required for the Banking and Financial services sector including the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL). In 2024 the IBSL marks the 60th Anniversary of a long journey in offering opportunities for aspirants to enhance competencies with knowledge, skills and exposure to become leading professionals in Banking and Finance. The IBSL launched its New Curriculum under the Professional Program in 2023 by following its inherent principle of continuous updates to cater to the changing needs of the very dynamic business of banking and finance.
Recognizing the importance of obtaining the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) for its Newly launched Professional Programme (i.e. DBF & HDBF), IBSL has been working closely with the Tertiary & Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) to develop National Competency Standards (NCS) for Banking and Finance and obtain National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) for the qualifications offered by the IBSL. The IBSL has initiated a project of partnership with Banks and Non-Bank Financial Institutions to open opportunities for students under the New Curriculum to work in those institutions as interns and obtain hands on experience of business operations of banking and finance. Students will have the opportunity of enhancing competency and confidence to become resourceful and promising candidates at the successful completion of their studies along with the internship.
The initial agreement was signed with the Sampath Bank PLC on the 06th of April 2024. Following this the second Agreement was signed with the Pan Asia Bank PLC on the 10th of May 2024 and the Agreement between the IBSL and Seylan Bank PLC was formalized on the 28th of May 2024. The recent collaboration was formalized with the Nations Trust Bank (NTB) on the 14th of June 2024.
